Broadhurst,Cassells & Hutchinson show their skills at Gambaros

A great night of Amateur and Professional Boxing was held at Gambaros Function centre in Brisbane and with some future professional stars out of the Amateurs, things are looking good for our sport.

7 Amateur contests and 3 pro matches were all fought in a highly competitive manner with the Amateur fight of the night coming from Nathaniel May (Western Australia) and James Katz from Matrix gym at the gold coast. May ended up being the winner in a very close fight where the lead was constantly swinging in either direction. Nathaniel May’s Class showed through in the end and he won the match by 2 points.

In the professioanl fights Kane Cassells was looking at continuing his unbeaten run in the professional game against Matt Sedan.Cassells had to lose an extra kilo than he normally does to make a catch weight of 58.5kg,so now he will be campaiging as a super fearweight rather than a lightweight. Kane has been strict with his diet and his training regime so the weight came off and the boys were ready to rumble.Kane used his jab well and scored a second round knock down with a left hook to the head, but the fight still went the distance with Kane winning his 3rd professional fight in a convincing points decision.

Cassells is enjoying the pro game and is coming along nicely and on the Thursday nights fight,he showed an array of skills, with good movements and fast punches. There is still alot of learning to do and tough opponents like Sedan dont make an easy match for anyone.

Liam Hutchinson looked the goods in his new boxing Trunks and Robe, proudly wearing the colours of his beloved Brisbane Broncos, and we saw a huge performance from him with a second round K.O of his opponent Blair Conley.Liam has been looking forward to boxing again at Gambaros in front of his supporters from the Builders Labourers federation and he surely didnt dissapoint.

“The Offender” as his nickname says, was definately that against Conley, his punches were coming from all angles and the acuracy was good for the duration of the contest.

Liam hutchinson will box again on June 3 at the Mansfield tavern on an Ace Boxing Promotions card where Amateur female star Sabrina Ostiwari makes her awaited professional debut and Omar Shaik will headline the Bill on the Sunday afternoon.

The arrival of “The Don” was here. After 4 weeks in camp in Australia Don Broadhurst was ready to make his mark by showing his class in Brisbane. Don started the first round very cautiously by moving around and having a good look at the opponent with a 12W-4L record from Thailand.Don was happy to take his time early and see what his opponent had to offer, however the second round was different. Don Broadhurst started landing heavy left rips to the body and right hands to the head and knocked the Thai down twice in the round.

Round 3 brought another knockdown and round 4 finished with 2 more knockdowns and the referee had seen enough,so the fight ended in the 4th with Don scoring 5 heavy knockdowns against a very tough boy with a decent record. It was a great way to start his Australian campaign and the plan now is to stay as active as possible and continue climbing back up the world rankings to where he has previously been ranked as high as 13 in the world.
