In a night of upsets at the Mansfield tavern in Brisbane,”Irish” Paddy Murphy was at his brilliant best with a dominant win over the highly regarded “Killer” Kurt Finlayson.
The win was unanamous with Paddy winning every round of the fight, even though the tough and rugged Finlayson definately came to fight ,letting big right hand bombs go all throughout the fight.
Murphy controlled the fight well by using his jab and his footwork to constantly pick off Finlayson and when the time came,Paddy took his attack to the body where he had some success.
Finlayson is a Muay Thai warrior who will win many boxing fights in the future but on this night came up against a slick boxer who has had more than 100 amateur fights and represented Ireland on Many occassions and this experience is the reason Paddy Murphy controlled the fight.
Next for Paddy is the Qld Title fight on November 26 at Fortitude Valley in Brisbane.
Join the Green army and jump on board for the ride to the top with “Irish” Paddy Murphy.

Friday 13th is unlucky for some but not for new professional Boxer “Irish” Paddy Murphy.
With a great preperation behind him including some awesome sparring sessions with James Giltrow,Todd Kidd and Jason Kanofski (thanks boys),Paddy was ready to rumble on the night.

Although a little nervous Paddy knew of the game plan and stuck to it perfectly “The plan was to stay calm and use the jab and just look for opportunities” said coach Gareth Wiliams.

The Night ended up being a short one for Paddy with a k.o in 1m 5 secs of the first round,”Even though Paddy scored an early stoppage, all the signs were there, and the final punch was very well executed” Williams said.

Fortitude valley played Host to an International night of Fights with Australia taking on Ireland.
There were 6 Olympic style bouts and 1 professional bout.
The Night was one of the best we have seen with a very vocal crowd and the Atmosphere being tremendous.
All Bouts were very competitive and very close with the Main Event being a great exhibition of skill and courage from both Boys.
Paddy Murphy was having his last Amateur bout against former Junior world championship Bronze medalist Timacoy Williams. The Bout had the crowd jumping and dancing in their seats for the whole 11 minutes from first bell to final bell (well after the Bout the Irish crowd were still singing and dancing).
Look forward to seeing Paddy in his Professional Debut on May 13th at Fortitude Valley.

15 men Turned up at The Boxing Shop on February 14th,at 5am,for a month of dedication to Boxing, Diet and Discipline.
The team weighed in everyday and lost an amazing 83kg throughout the group.
We had Doctors, Teachers, University Lecturers, tradesman and Business men ,all willing to put their hand up to be challenged and pushed to their limits in “Old School Fightcamp” where the ultimate prize was to compete in a boxing match against a team mate for 3 x 2 minute rounds.
The Boys were outstanding throughout the program with Terry being the “biggest loser” with an amazing 17 kg loss over the 4 week period.
Throughout the program, the Fightcamp team, pushed themselves to their limits, and everyone of the boys felt a great sense of achievement when they finally made the weight that had been set for them by the Coaches, Gareth, Steve and Dave.
…….And then the nerves kicked in ! ! !
The matchups had been done and none of the team knew who they were boxing against until the competition day.
When Fight day finally came and all the hard work had been done, the boys were all extremely nervous, knowing that they had 6 minutes to stand up and show the crowd why they committed to Fightcamp in the first place. For some it was weight loss, for some it was something that they had longed to do since childhood but never had the opportunity, but for everyone of them it was about the personal challenge to see if they had what it takes…………………and they all had IT.
A great program boys, you all should be very proud of your self’s.
“TOUGH TIMES DONT LAST….TOUGH PEOPLE DO

A great Amateur fight night was held at Inala Pcyc last weekend, well done to Russel and Craig in organising the event.
The Boxing Shop took 6 boxers to weigh in at the event and 1 boy Mitchel Coomer could not get a match but all our other boxers were matched up against local opponents.
First up we had Troy Ford who at 10years old and only 1 fight under his belt was finding it hard to get an even match,so we made the decision to step him up against a boxer who was 12 yrs old and had already had 20 fights.Troy lost a close points decision but boxed exceptional regarding the obvious disadvantage in age and experience.Troy is one of our Junior competition squad who is a quiet well mannered boy who tries his hardest every day at the gym and when he is doing his home practise, whether it be running or improving his technique.
Our Second Boxer of the night was State Champion,Kordell Cobbo-Mould who has come along leaps and bounds since he completed a couple of running sessions with our Elite Development Squad (he was totally buggered and I chose to penlise him with some extra 400m runs).Kordell’s straight punches are really improving and its a tribute to the commitment and time that he puts into his training.Kordell Outscored his opponent and Boxed beautifully in attack and defence.
Jack Bowen was our next representative who was matched up against a taller opponent of the same age and weight.
Jacks improvement over the last 6 months has been great where we have seen the 14yr old drop 7kg in weight and fall in love (to the extent of being obsessed!)with our great sport.Jack has been waiting for his Debut for along while now and he finally got to showcase his talents with a good performance and a win in his first Bout.
All our junior Squad are constantly improving due to commitment, enjoyment of their sport and dedication, great work boys.
Next up we had the senior Boys,Stephen Atcheler was first and took his record to 5W-3L with a much improved performance and a noticable improvement in his skills and pateince in the boxing ring. Stephen used his straight punches to outscore his opponent and take home the victory. Steve proved to himself how important Basic boxing skills are and actually came up and said this to me after the fight.Great work mate,a big improvement.
The CHIEF was next,Kalepo Esara. At 91kgs the former Rugby player was excited to have his first boxing bout and with a polished performance won a comfortable points decision over his opponent. Kalepo is a dedicated trainer and a pleasure to have in our competition squad. The Chief was boxing and moving, switching to southpaw and looked very comfortable in the ring for his first outing, even though I heard this from him at the End of the first round “ Icant believe it…my legs are F*%#@D”. All the nervous energy that was built up was taking its toll on his legs, which is something that happens regularly with novice boxers,no matter how much roadwork youve done, you can never do enough!!

Thanks to all that came to support and we look forward to more great performances by our team in the next Month

Thanks
G

State Championships this weekend (4th,5th and 6th of Feb),Jack Watford had his first fight in over 20 years,Troy Ford (10yrs Old) was unbelievable in his first bout (the best I have ever seen in someone having their first match, especially at only 10yrs,Fightcamp and Butterfly Bootcamp start on Feb 14th and John drove to toowoomba during the floods to pick up Damien Hooper and bring him into camp (and my house!)

As you are all well aware,2011 has brought some significant changes including the inclusion of the elite development squad (boxers who are pushing for National selection).
As Head Coach, I will be now teaching in majority of our classes which enables me to spend more individual time with all of our members,so that I can see the areas of improvement that each individual needs.

I know we will have a very successfull 2011 and we have 4 boxers aiming for senior World championships,3 boxers eligable for youth Commonwealth games and 1 boxer who can also make the Junior world championships team.

Good luck to all our members in achieving their goals for 2011, and remember….we are here to help!
